About Robin
One day during my sophomore year in high school, my best friend asked me what I wanted to do after graduation. My first response to her was, “I don’t know,” with a shoulder shrug. After about a week of really thinking about what I wanted to be after graduation, I finally told her I wanted to be a teacher and eventually a professor. Once I graduated high school, I had my heart set on Prairie View A&M University. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree In English with a minor in Secondary Education..
After deciding that I did not want to go straight into teaching, I started graduate studies in Educational Technology at Texas State University. It was there where I fell in love with instructional technology. After my first year as a graduate student, I worked as a graduate teaching assistant in Hays ISD at Hays High School. I began applying my research of instructional technology to the undergraduate teacher intern students whom I supported with instruction. I even got a chance to be a part of the design process of the first Texas State student teacher Technology Conference hosted by the EdTech and Curriculum and Instruction department!!
Upon graduating with a master’s degree, I began working as a secondary Reading and English teacher in Houston ISD. I primarily used classroom time to transform student learning with instructional technology. I enjoyed designing individualized and differentiated instruction for all my students. It brought me sincere joy when my students could visibly see the growth within their reading or writing. Towards the latter end of being a classroom teacher, I began training other campus colleagues to use the district’s Learning Management System and create individualized lessons for students, working as classroom teachers and instructional technologists.
That is when I made the transition to become a full-time Instructional Technology Specialist with Alief ISD. Currently, with Alief ISD, I have supported over sixty-plus staff members with technology integration. I have trained other teachers and staff members across the district on digital learning and technology integration, designed district professional learning courses, and led a digital learning consultant team to create professional development courses. I have also taken part in presenting various instructional technology topics with Region 4 and TCCA.
Being an Instructional Technologist during the pandemic stretched me as a leader. I learned to manage and lead device allocation and purchase plans. I ensured to equip students and families were with access to digital resources by hosting virtual ‘Technology Tuesdays’ after school. I also developed an online assessment system for TELPAS writing. The 20-21 school year was a successful challenge!
Lastly, I have recently started doctoral studies with Walden University, focusing on Education Technology and Leadership. I have a true passion for educational technology and how it transforms thinking and learning.
